The MFC1 can be assigned to a variety of different MIDI CC, Program Change, and other values and used with Ableton in countless ways. Here we will go over how to assign the MFC1 using a remote script to control the first 3 controls of a selected channel strip instrument using the encoders and trigger Play, Stop, and Record with the footswitches.
1. Download the AbletonControls.mfc1 file from the attachments on this page, open Jamstik Creator with your MFC1 connected, and click "Load Profile", navigate to and select the AbletonControls.mfc1 file on your computer.
Your MFC should now be ready to trigger the values that Ableton will be looking for in the attached Remote Script.
2. Download the Jamstik_MFC1_Ableton_Remote_Script.zip file attached to this article and unzip it to a folder labeled "Jamstik_MFC1".
3. Manually create a folder called “Remote Scripts” within your User Library (if it does not already exist). The default User Library location:
Windows: \Users\[username]\Documents\Ableton\User Library
Mac: Macintosh HD/Users/[username]/Music/Ableton/User Library
4. Place the Jamstik_MFC1 folder into the new "Remote Scripts" folder.
5. Open/Restart Ableton and open the Settings... panel to the Link Tempo MIDI tab.
6. Make sure your Jamstik MFC is connected and select Track and Remote next to it in the MIDI Ports list.
7. Now under the MIDI banner, select Jamstik MFC1 for Control Surface (this will appear as the name of the folder you placed in "Remote Scripts" with _ replaced with spaces) and next to that Jamstik MFC (MIDI OUT) and Jamstik MFC (MIDI IN) for Input and Output.
Now, while the MFC is set to the Ableton profile, you can control sound parameters as well as play, stop, and record in Ableton.
