Jamstik MIDI Guitars are a great companion to Logic Pro on iPad and can be used easily over Bluetooth MIDI as well as over USB with a USB-C to USB-A adapter on USB-C enabled iPads. Connecting is simple but you may need to change the pitch bend range of Logic Pro for iPad's software instruments on a per instrument basis as well as change your Jamstik's Pitch Bend Range in Jamstik Control for best results while playing.

Connecting Jamstik MIDI Guitars through Logic Pro for iPad
1. Open Logic Pro for iPad, open a new project, and create a MIDI software instrument track.
2. Connect your Jamstik and/or make sure your Jamstik is selected in Logic by navigating to the Settings menu from the top right of the window and selecting MIDI Settings.
3. If your Jamstik is not yet connected to your iPad, tap Bluetooth MIDI Devices, make sure your Jamstik is turned on and ready to pair, and select your Jamstik from the popup list.
4. If you are already connected through Jamstik Control through Bluetooth, your device should appear in the device list in the MIDI tab. If you are connected through USB (with a USB-C to USB-A adapter) you may see Jamstik MIDI OUT and Jamstik CONFIG OUT. Only Jamstik MIDI In needs to be selected. Make sure either Jamstik MIDI OUT or your Jamstik device (generally JSM followed by 5 numbers) is selected in the MIDI Input Ports list and close the settings menu.
5. You should now be able to play the software instruments in Logic Pro with the connected Jamstik. You may need to adjust your Jamstik's Pitch Bend Range on a per instrument basis for best results as explained in the next section.
MIDI/Pitch Bend Settings for Logic Pro for iPad
Jamstik MIDI Guitars can be set to different pitch bend and MIDI mode settings for best compatibility with other software instruments. Logic Pro for iPad supports the highest level of expression for the Jamstik (MPE or MIDI Mono Mode) for some, not all, of its software instruments. The steps to match pitch bend settings vary from the two instrument types.
Matching MIDI Settings for MPE (MIDI Mono Mode) Enabled Software Instruments:
Quick Sampler, Sample Alchemy, Sampler (Multi-Sample), Alchemy, EFM1, ES 2, Retro Synth, Sculpture, Vintage Clav
For any of the instruments listed above, Logic Pro for iPad should automatically match the pitch bend range when the Jamstik is set to MPE mode. To make sure your Jamstik is set to MPE Mode, download and open Jamstik Control on iOS and set the MIDI Mode to MPE and make sure that Pitch Bend is enabled and that Pitch Bend Range is set to +/- 48.
To make sure the settings on the Logic software instrument matches, open the Plug-ins area and long tap on the software instruments and tap "Show Details".
Next navigate to the MIDI Mono Mode settings. This may be in different locations or under a software instrument's MIDI Settings section (for Alchemy, this section was at the bottom of the instrument pane). For the Jamstik, these settings should be set to MIDI Mono Mode: "On (Base Channel 1)" and Mono PB Range: "48".
Your pitch bend and MIDI settings should now match your software instrument in Logic Pro. Until all of Logic Pro's software instruments are MPE-Compatible, you may need to go through this process again when you select a new software instrument.
Matching MIDI Settings for Non MPE-Compatible Software Instruments:
Studio Strings, Studio Horns, ES E, ES M, ES P, ES 1, EVOC 20 PS, Vintage B3, Vintage Electric Piano, Vintage Mellotron
For non MPE-compatible software instruments, like the instruments listed above, you may have to change both your Jamstik's MIDI settings in Jamstik Control on iOS and the software instrument's pitch bend settings in Logic Pro for iPad.
With a software instrument selected, open the Plug-ins area and long tap on the software instruments and tap "Show Details".
Now, long press on the Instrument block and tap "Show Details"
Now navigate to pitch bend up and pitch bend down settings. These may be in different places for each software instrument (for Electric Piano, these can be found in the Pitch section near the bottom of the pane). Make sure these are set to the same value as each other. You may want to set these slightly higher than +/-2 if you plan on doing large bends on the Jamstik. For this example, we will set these values to 12.
Note the bend values that you set in the previous step, open Jamstik Control on iOS, and set your device's Pitch Bend Range to the same number (in our example, this would be +/- 12). MIDI Mode should also be set to Multi Channel but may need to be set to Single Channel if you are having trouble with some notes being recognized in Multi Channel Mode.
Your pitch bend and MIDI settings should now match your software instrument in Logic Pro. Until all of Logic Pro's software instruments are MPE-Compatible, you may need to go through this process again when you select a new software instrument.
