The Jamstik can be used as a MIDI device on iOS devices. We recommend connecting through the Jamstik Control app to ensure that your firmware is up to date, tuning is accurate, and that your settings are correct for the MIDI instruments you wish to control. Once connected through the Jamstik Control app, your Jamstik should show up automatically in other MIDI apps.

Connecting to Jamstik Control on iOS over Bluetooth
Important: Bluetooth MIDI devices do not function correctly when connected through the Bluetooth menu in the iOS settings app and must instead use the "Bluetooth MIDI Devices" menu found in Jamstik apps and many other iOS MIDI-compatible apps.
- Download the Jamstik Control app from the iOS app store.
- Make sure your Jamstik Studio Guitar is charged and turn on the Jamstik and ensure that the power symbol is flashing or solid green.
- Open Jamstik Control and tap on "Connect Jamstik" at the top of the screen.
- Select your Jamstik from the pop-up menu (it will likely have a name that starts with JSM and then a series of numbers).
- Once the word connected, appears next to the Jamstik name, close the pop-up menu.
- The top bar should now say Connecting... and may take a few seconds until your guitar is fully connected and ready to play.
- Once "Connected" appears at the top of the screen, you can play sounds in Jamstik Control, tune your guitar in the tuning tab, change device settings in the home tab, or exit Jamstik Control and use your Jamstik in any MIDI-compatible app. You can also use the Jamstik Control app over Bluetooth to change settings while using the TRS-MIDI or USB connection for MIDI output on a separate computer or hardware synthesizer.
If using another app with the Jamstik, you may want to change your Jamstik's device settings to match the Recommended Device Settings for best MIDI performance in your app.

- Make sure your Jamstik Studio Guitar is charged and turn on the Jamstik and ensure that the power symbol is flashing or solid green.
- Open a Bluetooth MIDI-compatible app and find the Bluetooth MIDI Device connection menu. In Garageband, it can be found once you are in a project by tapping on the settings gear in the top right corner, Advanced, and then Bluetooth MIDI Devices. This menu's location will change in different apps but a device will stay connected if you connect it through this menu in another app like Jamstik Control.
- Select your Jamstik from the pop-up menu (it will likely have a name that starts with JSM and then a series of numbers).
- Once the word connected, appears next to the Jamstik name, close the pop-up menu.
- You should now be able to use the Jamstik's MIDI output through Bluetooth in your app. If you want to change Jamstik device settings to match your app's settings, tune your guitar over Bluetooth, or use your iOS device to change device settings while using the TRS-MIDI or USB connection for MIDI output on a separate computer or hardware synthesizer, download the Jamstik Control app on the iOS app store.

Connecting to Jamstik Control on iOS over USB
1. Connection method over USB depends on the charging port your iOS device is equipped with.
a. For iOS devices with a USB-C port, you will need the USB-C to USB-A cable that came with your Jamstik as well as the USB C to USB A adapter that came with your Jamstik.
Plug the adapter directly into the iPad and then plug the USB-C to USB-A cable into the adapter and your Jamstik.
b. For iOS devices with a Lightning port, you will need a Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter, the USB-C to USB-A cable that came with your Jamstik, as well as a lightning cable and charging brick.
Plug the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter directly into the iOS device. In the Lightning slot, plug in a Lightning charging cable and connect the other end to USB power (this step is necessary to make sure the device has enough power to operate).
Plug the Jamstik's USB-C to USB-A cable into your Jamstik and the USB side of the Lighting to USB 3 Camera Adapter.
2. Make sure your Jamstik Studio Guitar is charged and turn on the Jamstik and ensure that the power symbol is flashing or solid green.
3. You should now be able to use the Jamstik's MIDI output through USB in your app. If the Jamstik Control app does not recognize the Jamstik on launch, long tap on the "Connect Jamstik" button at the top of the screen, make sure your Jamstik is selected, and then tap continue.

Recommended Device Settings
Matching your Jamstik's Device Settings to other instruments is important for best performance and accurate tracking. A detailed guide on all device settings is available at Jamstik Studio MIDI Guitar Device Settings.
For apps that allow it, we recommend turning on MPE mode. You have to use the iOS Settings app to turn on MPE mode in Garageband. Once MPE mode is active in your app, the following settings are recommended:
- MIDI Mode: MPE
- Pitch Bend (Send): On
- Pitch Bend Range: +/-48
- If bending a string creates inaccurate sound or no pitch bend response, try switching to +/-2
- String Envelope Send: On (String envelope data does not currently send over Bluetooth)
- String Envelope Mapping: Channel Pressure (String envelope data does not currently send over Bluetooth)
For Garageband without MPE Mode enabled and many other "standard" MIDI apps in non-MPE mode, we recommend the following settings:
- MIDI Mode: Multi Channel
- If sound is not reflected from all strings, make sure your guitar is in tune or change to Single Channel MIDI Mode.
- Pitch Bend (Send): On
- Pitch Bend Range: +/-2
- If bending a string creates inaccurate sound or no pitch bend response, try switching to +/-48
- String Envelope Send: On (String envelope data does not currently send over Bluetooth)
- String Envelope Mapping: Expression (String envelope data does not currently send over Bluetooth)
For proper fretboard display, the Jamstik requires either Multi Channel MIDI mode or MPE mode to be enabled. For tuning through Jamstik Control, pitch bend must be turned on as well as Multi Channel or MPE mode.
