How to replace strings on the Jamstik MIDI Guitars (Core, Standard, Classic, Deluxe)
Tools Needed:
-String Cutter: Here's a basic one from Amazon that we like*
-New Guitar Strings: Any metal strings will work just fine.
The MIDI pickup is magnetic, so the guitar requires you to use metal strings
rather than nylon. The Jamstik ships with 9s, but standard electric guitar
strings will be compatible, so if you'd prefer to use 10s, you certainly can!
1. Detune string(s)
2. Unlock the tuner
3. Remove the old string(s)
Note: Using a wire cutter to cut the string is optional, cutting the string speeds up the
process. You can choose to remove and replace one string at a time or remove them all at once which makes it
easier to clean the fretboard if necessary.
4. Insert the new string through the back of the guitar
5. Insert string in the tuner, pull it through, and lock the
tuner once the string is taught (align with the nut)
6. Keeping the tension on the string and the string in the nut
and bridge saddle, tune the string to pitch, and clip the excess string.
7. Repeat for each string
8. Bend each string to help stretch the strings and work out
any slack, then check the tuning again and retune as needed.
Common Questions:
Do you have to use special strings?
Any metal strings will work just fine. The MIDI pickup is magnetic, so the guitar requires you to use metal strings rather than nylon. We'd recommend following standard .010–.046 gauges. Slightly below or above this range should be fine, though it may require some sensitivity adjustments in the Jamstik Creator plugin.
