How to Tighten or Loosen the Truss Rod on the Jamstik (Standard, Deluxe, Core, Classic)
The Jamstik MIDI Guitars (Standard, Deluxe, Core, Classic) features a standard electric guitar truss rod in the neck. Note that an adjustment to the Truss Rod is not required out of the box. However, in the event that you need to make an adjustment down the road should the neck shift due to changes of season or climate, this article will walk you through the process.
Important Note: We recommend making small, incremental quarter-turn adjustments as needed to avoid damage to the neck by over-tightening or loosening the truss rod. Most importantly, do not force the adjustment if the truss rod does not want to budge. If you do not feel comfortable making this adjustment, please bring the guitar to an experienced professional to avoid damaging the neck.
When to make an adjustment to the Truss Rod?
Action is too high due to a bowed neck (up-bow / too much relief).
Action is too low (fret buzz) due to a back-bowed neck (not enough relief).
Tools Needed:
Allen Key (Provided in the Gig Bag)
Step-By-Step Instructions:
1. Locate the Truss Rod Access On the Jamstik MIDI Guitars, the truss rod adjustment nut is located at the headstock of the guitar, directly above the nut. It is an open access point, so no cover removal is necessary.
2. Insert the Allen Key Insert the provided Allen key into the truss rod nut. Ensure it is seated fully and deep into the socket to avoid stripping the nut.
3. Make the Adjustment Turn the key gently in the desired direction:
Rotate Clockwise (Right): Tightens the rod. Use this to correct an up-bow (straightens the neck and lowers action).
Rotate Counter-Clockwise (Left): Loosens the rod. Use this to correct a back-bow (adds relief/curvature and raises action to stop buzzing).
4. Retune and Check Adjusting the truss rod alters the tension on the neck, which will change your tuning. Always retune the guitar to pitch before checking if the adjustment fixed the issue.
Tip: Allow the neck a few minutes to settle after an adjustment before measuring again.
