Jamstik Service Overview
The Jamstik Service is a lightweight piece of software that is installed alongside LOON. The Jamstik Service uses the Jamstik MIDI Guitar's configuration MIDI port (sometimes seen as MIDIIN2 or Jamstik CONFIG OUT) to change Jamstik Device Settings through the VST3, AUv3, AAX, or Standalone version of LOON. This allows you to use the MIDI output of the Jamstik MIDI Guitar with a third-party MIDI program or DAW while using LOON to change device settings. This is especially useful on Windows where, in most circumstances, a MIDI port can only be used by one program at a time.
Troubleshooting
If the Jamstik Service Error appears in LOON, first restart your computer.
If the issue remains after the computer restarts, reinstall LOON.
Jamstik Service attempts to use TCP port 60001. If that port is blocked it will try ports in order up to 60010
If this error continues make sure that these ports are not being used by another program, this can be checked through terminal or command prompt on Windows. You can also try navigating to http://localhost:60001/ through http://localhost:60010 in a web browser to see if any other software's page shows up when opening this page. If the Jamstik Service is running on the port, the page will NOT load correctly but should act differently than other localhost pages (slower or faster to load or a slightly different browser error message).
If the Jamstik Service is still causing an error, contact our team at Jamstik.com/support.
LOON should still be able to change device settings on the MIDI Guitar without the Jamstik Service, but configuration in the VST3/AUv3/AAX version may be limited.
Device Settings while Using Third-Party MIDI Software
In most circumstances, Windows only allows MIDI port to be used by one program at a time. This can cause issues if you are wanting to use the Jamstik to control a standalone third-party synth. DAW, or web browser but still want access to the device settings of the Jamstik. On macOS, MIDI ports are generally allowed to be used on more than one program but these steps may improve connection in certain situations.
1. Open LOON and launch the Audio/MIDI Preferences panel by clicking on the Audio/MIDI tab at the top of the screen or by selecting Preferences in the system's File dropdown.
2. Uncheck the MIDI device for the Jamstik and click OK (The second Jamstik device that is listed as MIDIIN2 or Jamstik Config In should be greyed out. This is what the Jamstik Service uses to read and change settings on the Jamstik).
3. Keep LOON open, and open the program you wish to use the Jamstik's MIDI output in. Navigate to that program's Audio/MIDI Settings and select the Jamstik.
If the program is not receiving MIDI from the Jamstik, or the device triggers an error, make sure no other program is using the Jamstik and restart the program (Ableton Live shows MIDI devices that are being used by other programs in red/orange).
4. The Device Settings tab in LOONshould now read "Jamstik Config Only". You can now click on this tab and adjust device settings while using your Jamstik with other software. If your Jamstik is connected via USB and the "Jamstik Config Only" text does not appear, follow the troubleshooting steps above.
