Ableton Live Jamstik Creator Setup

The Jamstik Creator can be run as a VST3 plugin inside of Ableton Live 10 on both Windows and Mac. Before attempting these steps, make sure that the Jamstik Creator and Sound Library have been properly installed on your system. Jamstik Creator Installation Guide.

As of now, adjusting Studio MIDI Device settings is not fully supported through most versions of Ableton Live. To change device settings, use the Standalone Jamstik Creator Application.

MPE Compatibility Note:

Ableton Live 11 and Studio One 5's MPE implementation does not preserve MIDI channel information, which is used by the Jamstik to distinguish notes and events on different strings. This blocks the Creator from showing inputs from the correct strings on the fretboard display as well as routing notes from specific strings to the correct per-string samples or accurately replicating hammer-on effects. We have reached out to these companies and hope they will make changes to properly accommodate MPE controllers in the future.

The Jamstik Studio can still be used properly with MPE compatible synths in Ableton Live 11 and Studio One that do not require un-scrambled MIDI channel data.

Jamstik Creator in Ableton Live Tutorial

1. First, open up a session on Ableton Live and navigate to the preferences menu from the Options dropdown or by using the preferences key command (Command+, on Mac and Ctrl+, on Windows).

2. Next, make sure "Use VST3 Plug-In System Folders" is turned on. If you have placed your VST3 in a custom location outside of the default locations in the Jamstik Creator installer, browse to the installation folder to allow Ableton to find your VST3.

3. Close Preferences and select "Plug-Ins" in the Categories column on the left side of the screen. Find and click on the arrow next to the"Jamstik" Category. Now you can drag the Jamstik Creator to a MIDI Instrument column in session view or an instrument row in arrangement view to assign an instance of the Jamstik Creator to a MIDI Track.

4. The Jamstik Creator UI should now open in window on top of Ableton. If it does not appear, or the window is closed, click the wrench (Show/Hide Plug-In Window) button next to Jamstik Creator near the bottom of the screen.

If there is no MIDI response or sound coming from the Jamstik Creator, make sure that MIDI Devices are enabled correctly in settings (Getting Started with the Jamstik in Ableton Live) and make sure that the Arm Recording button is active for the Jamstik Creator MIDI Track.

Note: As of now, adjusting Studio MIDI Device settings is not fully supported through most versions of Ableton Live. For this reason, the Connect to Device button may not function or change state even though the Jamstik Studio MIDI Guitar is properly connected. To change device settings, use the Standalone Jamstik Creator Application.
