It depends which version of the Jamstik you have. The Jamstik 7 uses AA batteries, and the included batteries are NOT rechargeable. However, you may utilize rechargeable AA batteries like those sold here on Amazon.
The original Jamstik and Jamstik+ can be charged by connecting the USB cable to a power source.
Charging Jamstik (WiFi) and Jamstik+
The original WiFi Jamstik and Jamstik+ can be charged by connecting the included micro-USB to USB cable from the Jamstik/Jamstik+ to a power source.
Instructions:
1. Connect the micro USB end to your Jamstik, then plug the USB end into a computer
2. Connect the micro USB end to your Jamstik, then plug the USB end into a USB power block which is plugged into the wall - such as the one included with your iPhone or iPad (Recommended)
It should be clarified; that while the jamstik+ will charge from your laptop or USB hub, it will charge faster with a dedicated wall outlet, while powered OFF.
If you are unsure about the charge of your Jamstik, please refer to the "Battery Status" article.
While the included USB is intended for charging purposes keep in mind that you are also able to connect the Jamstik as a MIDI controller input to MIDI-compatible devices via USB since the Jamstik was built to be a cross-platform class compliant MIDI controller! We recommend picking up an aftermarket high-speed USB cable that is long enough to suit your needs for optimal hard-wired performance!
Replacing the Jamstik 7 batteries
If you'd like, you can use either standard AA, or rechargeable AA batteries for the Jamstik 7, but please make sure to read the below instructions.
DON’T—Mix old and new batteries, batteries of different brands, or batteries of different types in the same device as this may cause the batteries to leak.
DON’T—Attempt to recharge non-rechargeable batteries. This can cause your batteries to overcharge or leak.
Recycling: Alkaline batteries can be safely disposed of in normal household waste, everywhere but California. We however strongly recommend for these to be disposed at a recycling station. Go to: https://www.call2recycle.org/ to find a recycling location near you.
